A Blacktip Reef Shark scouting the shallows at nighttime for a feed. These sharks prefer to hunt at dusk and dawn due to the change in the marine environment during this time. Smaller reef fish retreat from freely swimming around the reefs in the daytime and condense into the corals for protection at night. This increased activity and density of prey allows blacktip reef sharks to patrol over the shallow reefs and locate their prey by sensing their slight movements and small electrical signals given off from their muscle contractions and heartbeats. As soon as a fish freaks out with all the sharks around and tries to retreat for cover, its location is made more visible and the sharks will team up engulfing the fish in seconds.
