A newborn NZ Fur Seal curiously observes its first humans. Fur Seal pups will spend the first year of their life with their mother. Relying on her nutrient rich milk until they've learnt enough skills to go forage and hunt for themselves. Until then the mother must intermittently go and hunt while still looking after her pup. The mother and pup can recognise each others unique calls just a few hours after giving birth. The mother will use these calls to find her pup after she returns from her foraging missions.
