A Grey Reef Shark opens its mouth at a cleaning station on the reef. Although built as the perfect predator and definitely capable of being dangerous, sharks have a graceful side. This Grey Reef Shark is visiting a cleaning station where small cleaner wrasse will clean any parasites, bacteria and excess food from the sharks mouth. The sharks will line up over a particular coral bombie and tiny little cleaner wrasse will venture into the sharks’ mouth. You heard it right, these tiny cleaner wrasse willingly swim into sharks mouths equipped with hundreds of razor sharp teeth. This is an example of an incredible symbiotic relationship where the cleaner wrasse benefit from getting a feed while the sharks benefit from getting their teeth cleaned and staying healthy and free from parasites.
